About the Artist - Lonnie C. Blackley

Lonnie was born in Spartanburg, S. C. His earliest childhood years were spent on a farm playing in fields, creeks and old barns.  His love of nature and buildings is transferred to his art.  Lonnie's talent is a natural gift.  At the age of 5 he found a drawing of a car that his uncle had done and he drew it.  His uncle saw it but could not believe that Lonnie had drawn it, so had him draw it again.  He has been drawing ever since.  He continued developing his talent in high school, the Ohio Visual Arts Institute and the Cincinnati Art Academy.

Lonnie enjoyed working with Pen and Ink and also Pastels so combined the two mediums and developed it into the combination that he does today.  Pen and Ink is very time consuming especially with the amount of detail that Lonnie puts into his artwork.  One piece can take anywhere from 3 weeks to a couple of months.

Before the pastel color is applied to a piece, if it is decided that hand-painted lithographs are going to be done, lithographs are done of the ink work and then Lonnie adds the pastel color to each lithograph individually.  Once pastel color is applied, full color lithographs(prints) can be done.  All originals are done on 4 ply, 100% ragboard.
